Published: June 2007.
When Gay was published in paperback by Armada (as Gay Lambert at the Chalet School) it had major cuts, with whole chunks of text left out - so often these chunks being what we, as serious fans and collectors, find so fascinating.
It is in this book that we are introduced to Gay Lambert and Jacyinth Hardy, when there is the car accident that necessitates the employment of Miss Bubb, and when, as Jacynth writes to her aunt, "[Lady Russell's] youngest little girl, who is called Josette, has had a dreadful accident. Sybil, her eldest girl, upset a kettle of water over Josette somehow".
Elinor does not give us more than an outline of what happened, but Katherine Bruce (author of Peace Comes to the Chalet School) has written a short story, Sybil's Darkest Hour, and this will be included as an Appendix in the GGBP edition of Gay.
Also included is be a photograph of the 'real' door through which Gay left the School that night
Reviews
- I only had the Armada paperback of Gay, and reading the GGBP edition was like reading a completely different story. I couldn't believe how much information had been cut out.
