Before reading this, many Chalet fans have assumed that the 'three' in the title are Len, Con and Margot Maynard.
But this is not the case - this is the book in which we meet Mary-Lou Trelawney, Verity-Anne Carey and Clem Barras.
Although still at Plas Howell, it seems as though this was a conscious effort on Elinor's part to introduce a new generation of heroines, and she succeeds brilliantly. It is an absolutely pivotal book in the series.
The book is dedicated by Elinor to her pupils at the Margaret Roper School, and Helen McClelland has written a fascinating introduction about the school.
