Published: 2005

From 1959 - 1969 Elinor Brent-Dyer and her publishers, Chambers, ran a Chalet Club for her fans. Twice a year, she produced a News Letter for members, and these contain fascinating, sometimes contradictory, information about the series.
In 1997, Friends of the Chalet School reprinted these News Letters in more or less facsimile form, bound as a book. Due to popular demand, Girls Gone By have reprinted again - but with a full colour cover, and perfect binding, and with the colour inside illustrations where applicable.
Please note that this book is A4 in size, not the usual book format.
Reviews
- I don't think I've ever been moved to write to an author before, still less a publisher, but I wanted to thank you most sincerely for deciding to publish the Chalet Club Newsletters. Through them I have learnt various new things about the series and characters, been challenged by the competitions (and frustrated that the solution to Competition 16 was never given!) and enjoyed the contributions of the members of the club. More importantly, I have gained an insight into the character and values of Elinor M Brent-Dyer herself.
- Much of this is of course evident in the books, but it was inspiring to see her patience with all those who wrote to her, her appreciation of their comments, her devout Christian beliefs, and her school-girlish enthusiasm. It was particularly interesting to see how she encouraged young people to write, with her emphasis on correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary and neatness of hand-writing; and she gave them so many opportunities to practise these skills with the competitions she ran, too.
- Once again, thank you for publishing this book which has given me so much pleasure and taught me so much!
