Monica Edwards
Monica Edwards grew up in the vicarage in Rye Harbour, Sussex (the Westling of her books), briefly worked with horses and then married Bill Edwards and moved to Punch Bowl Farm near Hindhead in Surrey. She wrote many books set in both locations. GGBP has published several of the Romney Marsh titles, as well as two new non fiction titles, and will now be publishing some of the Punchbowl Farm books. We shall eventually be publishing all her books, and we shall also be publishing Brian Parks’s Punchbowl Farm companion in the next year or so. Please don’t e-mail to ask when, simply keep an eye on the website for details of forthcoming titles.
When we first started publishing the Romney Marsh titles, it was before Brian Parks’s The Monica Edwards Romney Marsh Companion and we numbered the series together with the Punchbowl Farm titles, since we began by publishing Storm Ahead in which Lindsay Thornton from Punchbowl Farm is staying with Tamzin Grey. This was probably a mistake, but we have continued to do this, and the numbers which are given by the books below are given from both the joint and separate lists (in reading order). However, this is not always straightforward and they do not always make numerical sense. You will need to read page 56 of The Monica Edwards Romney Marsh Companion, the concluding part of Brian’s chapter on the reading order, to sort this out.
Each of our titles has a different preface by Monica’s daughter, Shelley Edwards, followed by an article by Joy Wotton on Monica Edwards: the person, the places and the books (the same in each book) and then a further introduction by Joy on the title itself. All of these are illustrated with fascinating family photographs. In addition, John Allsup has written a publishing history for each book.
