Alison McCallum was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she still lives. While at school she spent many hours voluntarily helping at a Church of Scotland children’s home. On leaving school she worked in Edinburgh Central Library for a few years before leaving to train to be a Nursery Nurse. In 1969 she married Sandy and their two sons David and Colin were born in 1972 and 1974.
Alison has been involved with Guiding since she became a Brownie at the age of seven, and later a Guide and a Land Ranger. She was the Leader for many years of her Guide Company, 4th Edinburgh. After organising her Guide Company’s Centenary celebrations she relinquished her role in favour of younger and more active leaders but stayed on as a Leader with the Rainbow Unit that she helped to start in 1989.
Alison has also been involved with St Serf’s Players for many years although she spends more time now working on costume and watching plays than treading the boards. She is currently working in The Scottish Community Drama Association’s National Library.
