CS No 10
Gillian and Joyce Linton arrive at the Chalet School when their mother is sent to the Sonnalpe. Gillian becomes part of the School instantly, but Joyce is more difficult, bringing some anxious moments to the staff before she decides to toe the line. Thekla, who joined the School in Exploits reappears again … This is the book in which there is the midnight feast to end all midnight feasts.
Uniquely, for the hardback Chalet books, The Chalet School and the Lintons had three separate dustrappers – by Nina K Brisley, John Mackay and D Brook. The first edition also had four black and white plates by Nina K Brisley. All of these will be reproduced in this book.
In the Armada paperbacks, The Chalet School and the Lintons was split into two – Lintons and Rebel.
Katherine Bruce’s short story for this book is called ‘A Sad-Hearted Widow’: ‘I came as a sad-hearted widow,’ [Frau Mieders] said. ‘I had lost my husband and my little son together and then my mother begged me to come home. I had been left poor and it seemed best to take up teaching.’ (Excitements for the Chalet School p49, Chambers edition). She joins the CS in Lintons.
The Chalet School and the Lintons will be published in April.
