The Wild Lorings at School

The Wild Lorings at School is the first of two titles about a family of girls at school, which, while being very much a school story, has all the elements of a Courtney family story as well. When St Margaret’s School was transplanted from London to Highcross Chase, a lovely old house in the heart of Somerset, the girls little thought what a difference to their ordinary humdrum school life the advent of the Loring family would make. The school soon finds itself involved in what seems to be an inexplicable mystery, with strange and sometimes frightening happenings occurring without apparently any rhyme or reason. Surprise follows surprise, and the solution is finally arrived at by the merest chance, arising out of a hilarious trial held by the Fourth Forms to fill in a wet afternoon. As an introduction, Marian Pope, a member of the author’s family, has written a fascinating article with extracts from Gwendoline Courtney’s correspondence with her publishers about this title. GGBP published The Wild Lorings at School in April 2009. The Wild Lorings at School went out of print in September 2011.
